Wine Cork Coasters

On 21 July, 2012 by Jackie

I’m not much of a wine drinker but I have recently received a bunch of wine corks from a friend for craft use. I thought about what to make for a while and then I decided to make some coasters.  It was pretty quick and easy and I like the end result. Surely if you are a wine drinker this would be a cute coaster to use!

What you will need:

  • Wine corks, I used about 20
  • Hot glue gun
  • Old newspaper to work on
  • Pen, ruler, and something sharp to cut corks with

Lay out newspaper on a flat hard surface to work on. (I did this on my kitchen counter) Cut wine corks into equal lengths;use ruler to measure equal lengths and pen to mark where to cut.

I made 3 pieces out of each cork to use for my coasters.

Once all corks are cut, begin setting them in place to create desired design.  I made a circle shape similar to a flower, but any shape can be made.  Plug in hot glue gun and allow to warm up.

Starting from center of shape, glue outside with hot glue gun and attach a second cork in the design to middle piece.

Place both pieces on flat surface and push together; placing them on the flat surface for this will ensure the coaster’s bottom is all one level. Continue one cork piece at a time until design is finished.

Once the coasters are done, gently push all pieces together to ensure it will stay one piece.  Allow to dry fully on newspaper before use.
