Red, White, & Blue Nails

On 30 June, 2012 by Jackie

I have a dear friend who loves America…and anything red, white, and blue…so I always keep an eye out for cute things to show her.  Last weekend Nicole and I attended a bridal shower for one of our friends with some ladies from church.  One of them had an amazing manicure; her nails were french tip, only instead of white polish there was red and white stripes on one half and solid blue with a star of the other to create an American flag.   I loved it! And was inspired to try to create something similar to celebrate the 4th of July.

These were by far my favorite design.  I painted my big toe blue and my other toes red and white and free handed the stripes (you can tell cause they look messy).

To make stars, I used blue painters tape because it is a little bit more durable.  Simple draw a star on the tape  with a pen and cut it out with small scissors to create a stencil.

Put tape on nail once polish is dry and fill in with white polish.  Allow to dry a few minutes before removing tape; dry completely before reapplying tape to make another star.

Nicole graciously let me paint her nails to have a few more designs.  For a simple design, I painted her toes with the same dark blue.  Then once they were dry, I used a glitter polish with red and silver glitter to create a red, white, & blue theme that was a little more calm.

My last 4th of July theme nails, although Nicole also said the reminded her of Captain America.  Maybe this can be used for a costume as well?

For her fingers, I started with a base of a lighter blue.  Once that was dry, I used french tip stickers to paint a white french tip on her nails. Allow the white to dry a few minutes before removing stickers.  Do any touch ups as needed.

Create a star stencil as mentioned earlier, only this time the stars will be a little bigger to cover the whole nail.  Paint stars red to match theme.  Allow polish to dry a few minutes before removing tape and you’re done!
