Polka Dot Nails

On 21 June, 2012 by Jackie

For my birthday a few weeks ago I took the day off so I could enjoy relaxing at home with nothing to do all day.  It was wonderful.  Like any other day free, I painted my nails.  Looks complicated but it is a pretty simple idea and combines all the same techniques I’ve done before.

What you will need:

  • Scotch tape
  • Scissors
  • Tooth pick
  • 3 colors of nail polish
  • Top coat

Paint nails with base color (I used purple) and allow to fully dry for a few hours or overnight.

Cut scotch tape and place on nails in a diagonal pattern as shown.  I did my middle finger and thumb in an opposite pattern. Be sure to cover all parts of nails not to be painted and smooth tape to avoid bubbles.

Using second color (black) paint over non taped parts of nails.  Allow polish to dry 5 – 10 minutes and then rip of in a gently, fast motion.

Allow black polish to dry completely.  Dip end of toothpick in white polish and dab onto black polish to create the polka dot pattern.  Allow to dry fully then top with a top coat and  that’s all!
