Paper Reinforcements Nail Designs
I thought about painting watermelon nails a long time ago they are pretty cute and a good fit for summer. …but I hate pink so obviously I couldn’t paint it on my own nails. I finally got my sister to agree to let me paint hers! Just a heads up, I am not very good at nail painting so please don’t judge my photos too bad!
You will need 3 colors: light pink, green, and black. Start with clean shaped nails. Paint a base coat of light pink and allow to dry fully. (We did a pink base coat the night before)
Place reinforcement circle on each nail so the only part showing is the top part that is to be painted green to look like a watermelon rind. Paint the exposed nail green. You can free hand this part and just paint a green tip to the nail if you can hold a steady brush, but I sure can’t!
Wait at least 10 – 15 minutes for green polish to dry. Gently pull off reinforcement circle in the same fashion as a band-aid, quick and easy, toward the green polish you just painted. Then add watermelon seeds with black polish; you can make dots with a brush or by using a toothpick. (See this post for an example) I used black polish that had a fine point brush that came with it so it made this step easy.
Wait another 10 – 15 minutes for everything to try. Apply a top coat and once it has dried you are done!
Easy DIY French Tip
I have tried to free hand a French tip on my nails many times before, sometimes I am successful but sometimes I am not. My right hand always comes out the worst because I cannot paint well with my left hand at all! I often use scotch tape to make nail designs, so I thought this would be an easy way to make a French tip for my nails.
Place a paper reinforcement sticker on your nail so the top quarter is still exposed. Do this to all nails. Thumbs are a little harder because they are wider, simply tear reinforcement in half and use both parts to cover nail. Paint nails in desired color. More than one coast may be needed.
Wait for nails to dry fully then gently pull of reinforcements. Some polish may go under reinforcement stickers and make your design a little off, this happened to me but it is an easy fix. Did a small brush or Q-tip in acetone (or nail polish remover) and run it along the inside of the nail where any mistakes are to leave you with a French tip design. Allow to dry and paint with a top coat!
Note : Any polish that is on your skin can be taken off with a Q-tip dipped in nail polish remover once your nails are dry. Or you can do what I always do, just wait until you take a shower and the warm water with soften your skin and the polish will come off easily either on its own or with a little help from a wash cloth.
