Homemade Bisquick

Homemade Bisquick I get frequent emails from Bisquick and today I decided to try one of the desserts from my email.  I was looking through the ingredient list and realized I was out of Bisquick… most unfortunate.  I was planning on running to the store later in the evening and didn’t want to make a special trip.  I also didn’t want to wait to make the dessert.  I did a quick search and found a fabulous Homemade Bisquick recipe on  Perfect… right?

I didn’t need as much as her recipe yields so I halved it.  See the original recipe for the full size.

What you need:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons baking powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon salt
  • 1/4 cup cold unsalted butter

First sift some flour.  this process takes some time and thanks to my flour sifter I got a forearm workout!

Thoroughly whisk sifted flour, baking powder and salt into a large bowl.

Cut in cold butter using a pastry cutter, or if you are like me and don’t have one use a fork and knife and get to work. Store refrigerated in an airtight container.

Now that I have Bisquick from scratch I never have to worry about being out again.  Most importantly I can make the dessert I originally was set out to make.  I will let you know how it turns out.
