Chocolate & Graham Caramel Cereal Mix
I recently put myself on a budget. As a result there are less ready to eat snacks available in our household. There are plenty of ingredients to make things but when I am in a snack mood the last thing I want to do is take the time to prepare something. Hopefully I am not alone in this. Last night I made another cereal mix snack to have ready the rest of the week. If it lasts that long…
The original recipe was found on Betty Crocker’s site as Chocolate Chex Carmel Crunch and calls for a few different ingredients. I tweaked it a bit to use items I already had.
What you need:
- 4 cups cocoa puffs brownie crunch cereal
- 4 cups golden graham cereal
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 6 tablespoons butter or margarine
- 3 tablespoons light corn syrup
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 cup chocolate chips
In a large microwavable bowl (make sure it fits in the microwave) mix cereal; set aside. Line cookie sheet with waxed paper.

In microwavable measuring cup, microwave brown sugar, butter and corn syrup uncovered on High 1 to 2 minutes, stirring after 1 minute, until melted and smooth. Stir in baking soda until dissolved.
Pour over cereal, stirring until evenly coated. Microwave on High 3 minutes, stirring every minute.
Spread on cookie sheet. Cool 10 minutes. Break into bite-size pieces.
In small microwavable bowl, microwave chocolate chips according to bag melting instructions until stirred smooth. Drizzle over cooling cereal. Refrigerate until set. Store in tightly covered container.
So far the only drawback to this snack is the chocolate residue it leaves on your hands… This can be both good and bad, just make sure you have a napkin nearby!
