Cereal Crispies

On 3 August, 2012 by Nicole

It is saturday morning… you shuffle out of bed and into the kitchen to make a bow of cereal.  You get out a bowl, a spoon, your favorite box of cereal and milk.  You open the box and unroll the plastic liner.  You pour a bowl and small handful of cereal pours out, followed by a bunch of powder…. Bummer!!  This scenario has happened to me way too often.  What am I supposed to do with three bites of cereal?!?  The result is a very upsetting Saturday morning.

I saw a blog post months ago that had a wonderful idea (sorry I can’t remember, or find, the blog I saw).  All you need to do is collect leftover cereals for a few weeks or months, depending on your families consumption.  Once you have a 4-6 cups make these wonderful cereal bars.

What you need:

  • 3 teaspoons butter
  • 10 oz marshmallows, one bag
  • 6 cups cereal

First melt butter and mallows in a large pot over med-low heat.  I even used left over marshmallows and mixed large and small mallows.  Once melted add cereal, powder and all.  Mix gently until mallow mixture evenly coats the cereal.

Spray a baking dish with a light coat of cooking spray.  Pour cereal mixture into prepared pan and let sit for 30 minutes or until cool.

These crispies are a great way to use up ingredients in the kitchen.  I imagine each time they are made they will taste different.  I hope you enjoy your creation.
